American Queen Voyages Upgrades Wi-Fi with Starlink

by Dori Saltzman  February 09, 2023
American Queen Voyages Upgrades Wi-Fi with Starlink

SpaceX’s Starlink continues is take-over of the cruise industry, with American Queen Voyages the latest line to switch to its satellite service for onboard Wi-Fi. Upgrades have been made to all seven ships in the line’s fleet to enable the Starlink service, as well as 5G cellular back-up.

“Upgrading our included Wi-Fi to Space X’s Starlink will enhance the guest and crew experience on all of our vessels,” said Cindy D’Aoust, president of American Queen Voyages. “This new internet service will now allow guests to stay connected while deeply discovering North America, enjoying the comforts of at-home Wi-Fi at sea.

Starlink is powered by a constellation of lower earth (LEO) satellites that provide a stable connection to cruise ships, which are constantly on the go.

It is quickly becoming the go-to satellite provider for the cruise industry, with Carnival Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean, Celebrity Cruises, Silversea, Hurtigruten, SeaDream Yacht Club and American Cruise Lines all selecting Starlink service for its ships.
