Air Canada is dropping all service into New York’s JFK International Airport due to the rise in fuel prices.
The suspension will start on June 1 and will run through October 25, 2026, and includes all direct flights from Toronto Pearson (YYZ) and Montreal-Trudeau (YUL). In total, the cuts will impact four daily flights: one from Montreal (YUL) and three from Toronto Pearson (YYZ).
Air Canada’s service to New York’s other two major airports, LaGuardia (LGA) and Newark (EWR), will continue, which amounts to 34 total daily flights. Air Canada is starting to rebook impacted customers by providing alternate travel options through its remaining New York-area hubs or on its partner airlines.
In media statements announcing the news, Air Canada specifically mentioned the rising jet fuel prices, which have effectively doubled for the airline, as the reason behind the cuts.
“As jet fuel prices have doubled since the start of the Iran conflict and some lower profitability routes and flights are no longer economic, we are making schedule adjustments accordingly,” it said.
Air Canada is not the only airline starting to be dragged down because of the rise in fuel prices. Rumors earlier this week suggested that Spirit Airlines was nearing effective liquidation because of the rise in jet fuel prices and how it was impacted its business.
