Air traffic controllers (ATCs) striking at Norway’s major airports are expected to cause some issues for travelers flying through Norway this weekend.
Members of the Norwegian Air Traffic Controllers Association walked off the job after failing to reach an agreement on working conditions and wages with Spekter, the employer group representing airport operator Avinor. The strike officially began on Friday at 11 a.m. local time and is scheduled to last through Monday, Aug. 24.
According to FlightAware data, Oslo Airport (Gardermoen) recorded 154 delays and 11 cancellations on Friday, while Bergen Airport (Flesland) logged 21 delays and two cancellations. Among major regional carriers, SAS led with 11 delays and eight cancellations, followed by Widerøe with 14 delays and seven cancellations, and Norwegian Air Shuttle with four cancellations.
Because the walkout began midmorning, those numbers represent a snapshot of early disruptions-with delays and cancellations expected to build throughout the day.
Major Norwegian airlines, including SAS, Norwegian, and Widerøe, are advising all passengers traveling on Friday to monitor their individual flight status directly through their carrier.
