American Airlines Suspends Flights to Israel into December

American Airlines will not operate flights in, through, or out of Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion International Airport until at least Dec. 4, 2023.

American said on Tuesday that while it will continue to work with partner airlines to offer assistance to those looking to get out of Tel Aviv, it will not operate its own flights because of the conflict. Its pilot union had called for stopping flights to Israel because of the declaration of war by Israel on Sunday, according to the AP.

The airline is offering anyone who purchased tickets to, through, or from Ben Gurion the option to rebook without fees as long as they don’t change their origin or destination city and rebook in the same class of service.

While American’s suspension is the longest confirmed suspension out of any major North American carrier, others have also suspended flights.

Air Canada has canceled all flights to Tel Aviv starting Oct. 8 until the “situation stabilizes,” including service from Toronto and Montreal.

“We are monitoring this dynamic situation closely and we will adjust these plans as required. We remain in contact with the Canadian government. Air Canada will resume operations to Tel Aviv as soon as the situation stabilizes,” it said.

Delta Air Lines won’t fly its Israel service through at least Oct. 31. It has also issued a change fee waiver for all impacted flights. Tickets must be reissued by Nov. 30.

United Airlines has also suspended its Israel service until conditions improve (United didn’t give an exact timeline). It has issued its own waiver for travel through Tel Aviv and Amman, Jordan. The waiver includes flights through Oct. 31.

El Al, the flag carrier of Israel, is still operating, mostly focusing on flights to take reservists to Israel, according to Reuters.
