A bomb threat on Thursday morning halted flights departing from international airports in Montreal and Ottawa.
A NAV CANADA control tower at the Montréal–Trudeau International Airport was evacuated Thursday morning in response to the threat. Some flights were delayed or canceled.
A NAV CANADA spokesperson told Travel Market Report that Transport Canada is aware of the situation and is working with airport authorities, NAV CANADA, and local law enforcement to assess the situation.
“As a result of this morning’s events, some flights may still be delayed over the next hours. We invite passengers to reach out to their carriers to stay up to date with any scheduling changes,” the spokesperson said in a statement to TMR.
Ground stops at both airports have been lifted, according to a U.S. Federal Aviation Administration spokesperson (via Reuters).
NAV CANADA posted an update regarding the incident on x.com.
“Early this morning, NAV CANADA was made aware of bomb threats affecting facilities in Ottawa, Montreal, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Calgary and Vancouver. Employees at impacted locations are safe, and a temporary ground stop has been implemented at the affected airports.
We are collaborating with authorities to address the situation and ensure the safety of all personnel and passengers. Travellers are advised to check directly with their airline for the latest updates, as delays may occur.”
The Ottawa International Airport Authority posted about the incident on its website:
“The Ottawa Airport is currently investigating a security incident. Operations may be disrupted; please check the status of your flight before travelling to the airport. We will continue to advise as the situation unfolds.”
