Delta Air Lines, which has already released a new schedule for the European NFL games, is adding a handful of new flights for the upcoming NFL season.
The new routes are designed to give travelers the chance to maximize long weekends built around some of the more popular matchups, typically departing a day or two before kickoff and returning shortly after. The added service will only operate during those specific weekends.
While most of the network additions are domestic flights, the carrier is also adding four round-trip flights between the U.S. and Europe to support the NFL’s International Series games in Madrid and Munich.
Key highlights of the schedule expansion include:
- A new flight from Buffalo to Miami for the Jan. 3 game between the Bills and Dolphins.
- A new route between Atlanta and Green Bay for the Sept. 24 matchup between the Falcons and the Packers at Lambeau Field.
- A new flight between Minneapolis and Mexico City for the Nov. 22 game between the Vikings and the San Francisco 49ers, a centerpiece of the NFL’s international slate this season.
In addition to the new routes, Delta is upgrading mainline service between cities it already serves to accommodate the seasonal spike in passenger volume. This includes introducing larger aircraft on routes between Dallas and Green Bay for the Oct. 18 game, and adding extra flights to Green Bay from Minneapolis for the Nov. 15 border battle between the Vikings and the Packers.
