A wave of severe summer weather hitting New York and Chicago has triggered widespread flight disruptions across some key U.S. hubs on Tuesday.

According to FlightAware data, as of 2 p.m. EDT Tuesday, Chicago O’Hare (ORD), John F. Kennedy International (JFK), and LaGuardia (LGA) are all reporting delays climbing into the hundreds alongside dozens of canceled flights.

Chicago O’Hare currently leads national disruption totals, recording over 120 canceled flights and more than 400 delays. In the New York area, JFK and LaGuardia have collectively logged more than 100 cancellations and upwards of 250 delayed flights as line storms and heavy rainfall continue to pass through the region.

Major U.S. carriers, including American Airlines, United Airlines, and Delta Air Lines, have issued weather waivers for affected passengers traveling through ORD, JFK, LGA, and Newark (EWR).

American Airlines is waiving change fees and fare differences for passengers scheduled to travel on August 11, 2026, through Chicago O’Hare or Northeast airports including JFK, LGA, and EWR, provided tickets were purchased by August 9 and rebooked travel is completed between August 10 and August 13.

United Airlines is offering fee-free rebooking for Chicago flights departing on August 11, allowing passengers to reschedule travel between August 9 and August 14 in the same cabin without paying a fare difference.

Delta Air Lines is covering New York metro airports including JFK, LGA, EWR, and HPN, enabling passengers with tickets issued on or before August 10 to rebook for travel through August 13 without incurring change fees.

JetBlue is waiving change and cancel fees as well as fare differences for flights touching JFK, LGA, EWR, HPN, ISP, or BOS on August 10 and August 11, with rebooked travel allowed through Saturday, August 15.

All airlines are encouraging impacted passengers to manage rebooking options directly through their mobile apps or online portals before heading to the airport.
