Inbound flights to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) are facing average delays of over an hour and peak delays exceeding two hours on Thursday, October 1, 2026, as thunderstorms hit the region on Thursday morning.
According to real-time tracking data from FlightAware, DFW currently ranks as the single most disrupted airport globally today for flight cancellations with 74 cancelled departures (6% of overall departures), along with 13 delayed, and 76 cancelled arrivals (6% of overall arrivals), along with another 114 delayed flights (10% of inbound traffic).
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Air Traffic Control System Command Center has issued official Ground Delay Program (GDP) for the airport early Thursday morning, which it expects to last until at least 10 a.m. local time. The GDP says to expect delays of almost 80 minutes on average if you are flying out of Dallas on Thursday morning.
American Airlines issued a travel alert for DFW covering all of October 1. The waiver allows passengers scheduled to fly to, from, or through DFW to rebook their flights without change fees or difference in fare, provided they retain their original cabin class and rebook within the designated travel window.
The severe weather is impacting Dallas Love Field (DAL) as well. FlightAware shows departure delays at Love Field are averaging roughly 54 minutes as storm cells pass through the area.
Southwest Airlines has issued its own travel advisory for Dallas Love Field for Thursday, October 1. Passengers holding reservations to, from, or connecting through DAL can rebook in their original class of service or travel standby within 14 days of their original travel date without paying additional charges.
