As noted in a recent video interview by TMR Canada’s John Kirk with Tobago House of Assembly Chief Secretary Farley Augustine, Caribbean Airlines is adding a new nonstop connection between Toronto and Tobago as of October 25.
The new flight gives the island a direct link to one of its most important international visitor markets just in time for the winter travel season. It also marks the first direct flight from Canada post-COVID. First direct flight post-COVID.
The new route by the national carrier of Trinidad and Tobago will operate once weekly on Sundays, giving Canadian travellers a direct way to reach Tobago without connecting through Trinidad.
As Canadians seek alternative winter destinations, Tobago has plenty of appeal. It’s a destination comprised of small hotels, quiet beaches, tasty roadside food options and activities including snorkelling, diving and rainforest exploration.

Tobago’s interior is home to the Main Ridge Forest Reserve, the world’s oldest legally protected tropical rainforest, a nearly 10,000-acre preserve of tropical forest, waterfalls and extraordinary birdlife.
For those seeking a two-destination vacation, the new Toronto flight also opens up another possibility: pairing Tobago with much-larger sister island Trinidad.
Caribbean Airlines offers frequent flights between the two destinations. Tiny Tobago has a population of just over 70,000, while Trinidad is the sixth largest island in the Caribbean, with a population of 1.5 million. While Tobago is known for its beaches, reefs and rainforest, Trinidad offers intriguing cuisine, culture and nightlife.
As well as Tobago, Caribbean Airlines links Toronto with frequent direct flights to Georgetown, Guyana.
Tourism officials say Tobago still feels like a place you discover rather than simply visit. There are beaches like Pigeon Point and Englishman’s Bay, the reefs of Buccoo, tiny villages, waterfalls and miles of rainforest.
