United Airlines will again fly to Greenland, offering service to Nuuk International Airport (GOH) next summer, the carrier announced Monday. The airline flew the route this year, marking the first regularly scheduled direct service between the U.S. and Greenland since 2007, and the first ever for a U.S. airline.
The flight was made possible after Greenland upgraded the Nuuk airport in 2024, expanding the runway to allow larger jets to fly into the hub and adding a new terminal.
The airline has been flying the twice-weekly service from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) on a Boeing 737 MAX 8. The announcement was made on social media by Patrick Quayle, United’s senior vice president.
“And if you haven’t had a chance to travel to Nuuk this year, I’ve got good news: United will be returning to this gem of the Arctic in 2026,” Quayle wrote in a post Monday.
The Greenland addition was the highlight of a larger international expansion for United, which included new nonstop flights to Palermo, Italy; Bilbao, Spain; and Madeira Island and Faro, Portugal. Those additions gave United its largest-ever transatlantic schedule.
