Princess’ Sun Princess Returns from Dry Dock with Brand New Offerings

New Features and Upgrades Debut Onboard Sun Princess (PRNewsfoto/Princess Cruises)

Princess Cruises’ Sun Princess has returned from its 14-day, multimillion-dollar dry dock with new premium staterooms, an updated youth center, and new retail options.

Princess updated the ship, which was first built in 1995, as part of its “Come Back New Promise,” the line’s multi-year plan to renovate its fleet that was announced in January 2016. Aside from a livery redesign, Sun Princess reenters service with a number of new guest offerings.

The ship will now feature Princess’ premium stateroom category, Club Class Mini-Suites. Guests in the suites will get access to reserved dining area Club Class Dining, priority embarkation, and priority disembarkation.

The ship will now sail with a new youth club, Camp Discovery, which was created by Princess through a partnership with Discovery Communications. Camp Discovery includes both a place for kids to play — three separate facilities cater to kids ages three to seven, eight to twelve, and thirteen to seventeen — but also onboard programming like interactive scavenger hunts and hands-on science experiments.

It will also come back into service with a new set of retail offerings, including an Effy Fine Jewelry Boutique; and a brand new designed ship that will offer handbags from Burberry, Coach, Longchamp, and Guess.

Sun Princess will now kick off a season of Southeast Asia, Australia, and New Zealand sailings. Its schedule includes its maiden call to Moreton Island off the Queensland coast during an Australia Getaway sailing that departs on Jan. 5, 2019.

Later in 2019, Sun Princess will sail to Indonesia’s Komodo Island, the only time the ship will call at the port, during a Southeast Asia sailing that departs on Dec. 23, 2019.

“Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand have always had an allure for travelers, and cruising is one of the best ways to explore this part of the world,” said Princess President Jan Swartz, “We are thrilled to provide guests sailing the regions with our newest onboard features that enhance their cruise experience while sailing this beautiful part of the world.”
