Just days after confirming it had no plans to cut Labadee from its cruise itineraries, Royal Caribbean has reversed course and eliminated the private Haitian port of call from all cruise itineraries throught then end of April.
The country has been under a state of emergency for several weeks since thousands of gang members escaped multiple prisons in Port-au-Prince. Additionally, the U.S. State Department continues to maintain a Level 4 warning for the country, meaning all travel to the country is discouraged.
“The safety and security of our guests, crew, and communities we visit are our top priority,” a spokesperson for Royal Caribbean said. “Our Global Security and Intel Team is closely monitoring the evolving situation in Haiti and in an abundance of caution, we are temporarily making adjustments t sailings visiting Labadee. We will continue to monitor and reassess calls as needed, and will communicate updates with guests directly.”
Depending on the ship’s itinerary, calls to Labadee have been replaced with Falmouth, Perfect Day at CocoCay, Grand Turk, George Town, Bimini, or a sea day.
