Air Canada is expanding its intermodal strategy, adding rail and bus options to new countries in Europe as well as Asia.

Customers booking Air Canada flights can now add land transportation options to Italy, Spain, Britain, and South Korea, all on one itinerary.

The Canadian airline launched the intermodal program in Europe in December 2023, offering customers the option to add air-to-rail connections at airports in France, Germany, Switzerland, and Austria.

The addition of South Korea marks Air Canada’s first Asian operator to its intermodal network. Travelers flying Air Canada can now connect to KORAIL’s KTX Trains via the AREX Express and Seoul Station.

“Air Canada is further growing its intermodal strategy to more European gateways and to Asia, making it possible for our customers to connect on Trenitalia, Renfe, five operators in the UK, including National Express, and KORAIL in South Korea,” said Mark Galardo, executive vice president of revenue and network planning at Air Canada.

Air Canada has partnered with AccesRail, allowing customers to book land transportation on the airline’s website. Travellers can check in for the train or bus portion of their trip prior to departure, without needing to obtain a separate train or bus ticket.

In the case of flight disruption or delays, customers’ air and land segments will be rebooked.

“Our intermodal connections not only provide more choice, but also make available sustainable options for short-haul segments of their journey,” Galardo added.
