Air Canada Leads North American Carriers in On-Time Percentage for 2nd Straight Month

Air Canada Leads North American Carriers in On-Time Percentage for 2nd Straight Month

Air Canada flight attendants will vote for a strike mandate next week.

For the second month in a row, Air Canada leads the list of the top 10 major carriers in North America for on-time flight performance.

It’s a sign of progress for the airline that has struggled to move up from the bottom of Cirium Aviation Analytics’ monthly rankings of airlines’ on-time flight performance over the past couple of years.

Air Canada took the number one spot in May and repeated the performance in June. Canada’s biggest airline landed 77.15% of its 33,473 June flights on time in June, following an even better May when it landed 79.06% of its 32,723 flights on time.,

Cirium defines a late flight as one that lands 15 minutes or more past its scheduled arrival time.

Florida-based low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines placed second in the June rankings, landing 75.77% of its 19,656 flights on time, while Delta Air Lines, a consistent first-place finisher in recent years, ranked third on the list with 75.62% of its 158,294 flights landing on time.

WestJet, Canada’s second-biggest airline, finished seventh in June rankings after two consecutive fifth-place rankings in April and May. WS landed 71.73% of its 18,190 flights on time last month after recording a 76.73% on-time performance in May.Weather definitely plays a factor for Canadian carriers. In the February Cirium rankings, Air Canada placed ninth and WestJet 10th.
