As Fuel Prices Soar Again, Porter Raises Surcharge on VIPorter Reward Flights

In June, Porter Airlines reduced the fuel surcharge it had imposed on VIPorter reward flights from $40 to $20, reflecting a ceasefire in the U.S./Iran conflict and the resulting drop in aviation fuel costs.
With the ceasefire in tatters and oil prices soaring once again, Porter says it has been forced to raise the surcharge again.
“We truly hoped our next update would confirm that full removal,” Porter said in a press release.
“However, the global oil market has since experienced unexpected and sharp price increases. To ensure we can continue offering the full value of your VIPorter points during this period of rising jet fuel prices, we must temporarily readjust the surcharge to $40,” the airline said in a message to VIPorter members.
“This is not the direction we wanted to take. While these recent market shifts have stalled our progress in removing the surcharge, our commitment remains unchanged. We plan to remove it entirely when market conditions allow.”
Existing bookings remain protected at their original rates. And Porter reminds travel advisors that there is no fuel surcharge for regular bookings made without redeeming points.
