Diana Ross will no longer be the godmother of Star of the Seas, after canceling her appearance just days before she was set to name the all-new ship “due to unforeseen circumstances.”
The news was first reported by People and later by several other outlets including RoyalCaribbeanBlog.com.
Royal Caribbean has confirmed the reports to TMR and said an announcement of a new godmother will be coming soon. Star of the Seas is scheduled to be officially named and welcomed into the Royal Caribbean fleet on Aug. 20.
“We are disappointed that Diana Ross is unable to join us to be godmother of Star of the Seas. We look forward to announcing our new godmother soon,” a Royal Caribbean representative said.
The reasons behind 81-year-old Ross’s withdrawal have not been released, but she had just completed a UK tour and is scheduled to begin a U.S. tour on Aug. 16.
