Rhapsody of the Seas’ Passengers Not Told About Rocket Fire

Cruisers aboard the Rhapsody of the Seas’ May 17 sailing out of Dubai were not told that rocket fire had come dangerously close to their ship, according to a report by News Corp Australia. The ship’s itinerary took it into the Suez Canal and then to Ashdod, Israel, a city close to the Gaza Strip that was hit with rocket fire while the ship was docked in its port. Royal Caribbean told News Corp that none of the 2,000 passengers or 765 crew members on board were ever in danger and the ship proceeded to its next port of call without incident.

While Royal Caribbean and other major cruise lines still stop in Ashdod, the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs has issued warnings against people traveling within five kilometers of the border of the Gaza Strip “due to the threat of a rocket attack,” an area that includes Ashdod.
