Royal Caribbean has extended its suspension of cruise visits to Labadee, Haiti, through April 2028, as ongoing instability continues to raise safety concerns in the Caribbean destination.
According to an update from Royal Caribbean Blog, the cruise line notified travel advisors on Friday (Oct. 30) that it was making another round of itinerary changes, replacing scheduled calls to its private beach destination with alternative ports or sea days.
The latest cancellations affect 44 itineraries across nine Royal Caribbean ships, marking a significant extension of the company’s previous suspension, which had covered visits through July 2027.
“We’re sorry for any inconvenience this may cause,” Royal Caribbean said in an email to travel advisors. “Your clients’ safety is our top priority.”
“While we know it’s not the original itinerary we planned, we appreciate your understanding and can’t wait to explore these new destinations with your clients!”
Nine ships impacted
The latest itinerary adjustments will affect the following ships:
– Adventure of the Seas
– Allure of the Seas
– Explorer of the Seas
– Freedom of the Seas
– Harmony of the Seas
– Independence of the Seas
– Serenade of the Seas
– Star of the Seas
– Symphony of the Seas
Guests booked on affected sailings will visit alternative destinations or spend additional time at sea, depending on their itinerary.
Haiti’s security crisis continues
The latest extension suggests the cruise line is preparing for a prolonged absence from the destination.
Royal Caribbean began suspending visits to Labadee in 2024 as Haiti’s security situation deteriorated following a wave of coordinated gang attacks targeting police stations, prisons and government buildings.
Armed gangs have since maintained control over significant portions of the capital, Port-au-Prince, contributing to widespread instability and violence.
Labadee, located on Haiti’s northern coast approximately 130 miles from Port-au-Prince, is a 260-acre private beach destination exclusively accessible to Royal Caribbean cruise passengers.
The property is fenced and monitored by private security, providing a controlled environment separate from much of the country.
However, the broader security crisis has continued to affect the cruise line’s ability to operate there.
Royal Caribbean last called at Labadee in April 2025, briefly resuming visits, but sailings to the destination were suspended again shortly afterward.
The company has not announced a date for resuming calls to Labadee beyond the newly-revised itineraries.
The Government of Canada currently advises against all travel to Haiti, citing the risk of kidnapping, gang violence and widespread civil unrest.
