VIDEO: Beverly Cheng on Canada’s Big Moment at Hong Kong Wine & Dine Festival
by John KirkThe Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) brought a taste of Hong Kong to downtown Toronto Thursday night (Oct. 1), hosting a glam dinner at Malaparte, inside the TIFF Bell Lightbox, to toast a milestone moment for Canadian wine.
The evening set the stage for the upcoming Hong Kong Wine & Dine Festival, which returns to Victoria Harbour from Oct. 29 to Nov. 1 with more than 300 food and wine booths from around the world.
This year, Canada will have a prominent seat at the table. For the first time, the festival will feature a dedicated Canadian pavilion, bringing together eight wineries from Ontario and British Columbia under the “Team Canada” banner.
“This pavilion is an important first step in introducing more of Canada’s wine story to Hong Kong and the world,” Beverly Cheng, HKTB’s director for Canada, told guests, who were treated to an exquisite five-course dinner created by Michelin-starred Chef

Alvin Leung (from TV’s MasterChef Canada), alongside a selection of wines curated by celebrated wine expert John Nadeau.
Also on the scene were Canadian wine writer and critic Tony Aspler and award-winning sommelier, journalist, entrepreneur and the personality behind Super Wine Girl, Angela Aiello.
Throughout the evening, experts shared insights into the unique ties between Canada and Hong Kong, exploring how food, wine and travel continue to connect the two destinations.
TMR Canada’s newest addition, Michael Pihach, also served as host and MC for the night, guiding guests through the night’s festivities.
What can Canadian travellers expect from this year’s Hong Kong Wine & Dine Festival? How can travel advisors turn the event into a selling opportunity?
TMR Canada’s John Kirk dropped in for a chat with the HKTB’s Beverly Cheng to get all the answers.
