Glass Tiger’s Alan Frew to Headline the 2nd Annual Canadian Travel Awards
by Bruce ParkinsonThey don’t call it the biggest party in the Canadian travel industry for nothing.
The headline entertainment for the 2nd annual Canadian Travel Awards has been announced as – drumroll please — Alan Frew, lead singer of Glass Tiger, one of the top-selling bands in Canadian history.
Glass Tiger has released five studio albums over a long career. Its 1986 debut album, The Thin Red Line, went quadruple platinum in Canada and gold in the United States. Two singles from that album, “Don’t Forget Me” and “Someday,” reached the U.S. Top 10.

Frew has released three solo albums during his long career. Other highlights include co-writing “I Believe,” which became the theme song for Canada’s Olympic Broadcast Consortium for the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver, and “Free to Be,” a tune used by the Toronto Maple Leafs as a theme song
Travel’s best and brightest will gather on November 19 at the Concert Hall in the iconic Fairmont Royal York in downtown Toronto for the event that brings together top suppliers, travel advisors, and industry leaders from across the country for an evening dedicated to recognizing outstanding achievement.
The Canadian Travel Awards honour the suppliers, destinations and individuals who are shaping the future of travel through innovation, leadership, and exceptional service. It celebrates standout performers across a wide range of categories, including airlines, tour operators, tourist boards, hotels, destinations, cruise lines, advisors and more.

Last year’s event saw over 300 Canadian travel leaders in one room with an exclusive musical performance featuring Canadian favourite Jim Cuddy, a founding member of beloved band Blue Rodeo.
Close to 40 awards were handed out by the publication that proudly describes itself as the “Voice of the Travel Advisor.” Winners were selected through online voting by close to four thousand travel advisors from coast to coast.
“We work in an extraordinary industry and each year, The Canadian Travel Awards give us the opportunity to shine a spotlight on the very best individuals and companies,” said John Kirk, Editor in Chief and Managing Director, Travel Market Report Canada.
“These awards recognize the people and organizations that continue to help Canadians explore their world and enrich their lives.”
