The Best Hotels for Pre- and Post-Cruise Stays in Miami

The Plymouth South Beach in Miami

Before a recent cruise out of Miami, Travel Market Report stayed at Marriott Miami Biscayne Bay. Though it was a short stay (arrived at 7 p.m. and left by 9 a.m. the next morning), it got us thinking about the importance of quality pre- and post-cruise hotels.

At Marriott Miami Biscayne Bay, check-in service was quick yet thorough, the guest rooms were clean and comfortable, and the main restaurant served a delicious meal that I enjoyed on their expansive, waterfront patio.

I especially loved that I could see the bay and line of cruise ships in the near distance from my room, a reminder of the journey ahead for me the next morning, and that the grab-and-go shop had all the essentials and treats I wanted.

One travel advisor also told me that this property offers cruise-focused packages that include Uber vouchers, as well, and it’s only about a 5-minute drive to Port Miami.

So, what do other hotels in the area offer for Miami cruise passengers? We asked the travel trade community, and here were some of their suggestions.

Prime Location

InterContinental Miami

With its proximity to Port Miami and panoramic bay views, InterContinental Miami is one of the most popular pre-cruise hotels in the city. It has a resort-style feel, offering spacious rooms and strong service, while still remaining conveniently located near the port – only a few blocks away.

Kimpton EPIC Hotel

Also mere minutes from Port Miami, Kimpton EPIC Hotel is a luxury boutique hotel with a vibrant atmosphere, making it great for celebratory cruise groups’ pre- and post-stays. Guests love the on-site dining and the Kimpton brand’s signature perks, such as the complimentary morning coffee and tea program and daily social hour in the evenings.

Resort-Style Stays

The Biltmore Hotel

Cruise passengers with plenty of extra time often enjoy The Biltmore Hotel’s relaxed, resort-style vibes that emanate from its historic charm, beautiful grounds, and iconic pool. It’s all in the quaint neighborhood of Coral Gables, still not a far drive from Port Miami.

Loews Miami Beach Hotel

This full-service resort has an oceanfront location near the Art Deco historic district, making it a trusted favorite among Miami cruisers. Loews Miami Beach Hotel offers a great mix of elegance and family-friendly fun. Soon, it will unveil newly renovated rooms and two new restaurants.

Contemporary Luxury

Casa Tua

With a boutique, residential feel inside a Mediterranean villa, Casa Tua is suited for high-luxury clients who want privacy with personalized service. The hotel notably offers intimate outdoor and indoor dining at its namesake Italian restaurant, plus exclusive members-only bars.

The Setai, Miami Beach

Another prime choice for luxury travelers, The Setai, Miami Beach has refined design throughout its Art Deco and Ocean Suites. This serene and tranquil ambiance extends to its oceanfront pools and is a stark contrast to the energy of South Beach while still within walking distance to that liveliness. The property also has Asian influence in both its design and dining, from the aesthetic of its suites to the immersive restaurants serving Japanese cuisine.

Art-Deco Design

The Plymouth South Beach

This restored Art Deco boutique hotel is chic yet relaxed and offers guests many perks to enjoy. First is the proximity to the shore, where guests get a private beach experience. There’s also the beloved Blue Ribbon Sushi restaurant in the hotel lobby. Even the swimming pool takes on an Art Deco style that rivals other design-forward hotels in the area.

The Gale South Beach, Curio Collection by Hilton

Another stylish Art Deco option, The Gale South Beach offers a rooftop pool and walkability to the beach and South Beach neighborhood. The building dates to 1941 and has been restored in true vintage fashion. It’s located just one block from the beach on the corner of Lincoln and 17th St.
