VIDEO: GX 2026 Cambodia – Bruce Poon Tip on Tourism’s Power on World Tourism Day
by John kirkI spoke with G Adventures founder Bruce Poon Tip the morning following the annual closing celebration that traditionally wraps up GX, reflecting on an extraordinary week in Cambodia and what comes next. He describes Cambodia as the “perfect backdrop” for everything GX represents. After spending the week here with him, some 700 attendees and nine different groups of travel professionals, it’s easy to understand why.
In my exclusive conversation with him following a busy week on World Tourism Day, Poon Tip talks about the decision to bring GX 2026 to Cambodia, the extraordinary reception the group received, and why he believes tourism can play a meaningful role in the country’s future.
For Poon Tip, that potential goes well beyond bringing more visitors to Cambodia. He spoke about the resilience of the Cambodian people, the pride that comes from sharing their culture with travellers, and tourism’s ability to give communities a greater stake in their own economic future.
We also get into what community tourism actually looks like on the ground. Poon Tip discusses local initiatives including Spoons, New Hope and Lady Tuk Tuk, and why bringing marginalized communities, particularly women, into the tourism economy remains central to the G Adventures model.
Poon Tip offers an early look at GX 2027 in Brazil, including why it may take travellers well beyond the country’s traditional tourism centres. He also discusses G Adventures’ move further into luxury travel and why he believes community tourism and high-end travel aren’t mutually exclusive.
It’s a wide-ranging conversation about Cambodia, the evolution of GX and where G Adventures is headed next.
