Survey: Gen Z Doesn’t Trust AI for Travel Booking

Gen Z may like artificial intelligence (AI) for finding deals or suggesting activities, but today’s 18- to -35-year-olds aren’t interested in using the emerging tech for travel booking.

Contiki’s annual Voice of a Generation survey found that the vast majority of respondents wouldn’t use AI to plan and book their vacations—77% said they hadn’t used AI for any part of their travel planning, and only 7% said they would let AI book their entire trip.

“For travel advisors, these findings highlight a golden opportunity: Gen Z values technology as an enhancement, not a replacement, for personalized, human-guided booking experiences,” said Melissa DaSilva, Interim CEO of TTC Tour Brands.

Contiki, a brand within The Travel Company’s portfolio, is a tour operator specializing in travel for young adults. Its Voice of a Generation report surveyed over 1,000 Americans between the ages of 18 to 25 to identify key trends shaping travel in 2025. The findings were first made public in October.

Other key trends Contiki identified for 2025 include sober travel, sustainable tourism, and alternative adventures.

“This generation is reshaping what adventures can and should look like—from embracing destination dupes as alternatives to iconic hotspots to prioritizing experiences that focus on mindfulness and connection,” added DaSilva. “By understanding these values, advisors can tap into Gen Z’s unique approach to travel and create unforgettable journeys tailored to their preferences.”
