Carnival Adds 13 More ‘Journeys’ Sailings

by Daniel McCarthy  February 20, 2017

Carnival Cruise Line said today it is adding 13 sailings to its Carnival Journeys enrichment series of cruises for the 2018-2019 season.

The sailings are a departure from regular Carnival sailings; Journeys sailings aim to give guests a chance to visit different and exotic destinations, and enrich the trip with matching onboard activities tailored to the region in which they sailing.

On each Journeys sailing, Carnival brings local chefs onboard to lead cooking demonstrations and gives guests a taste of their signature dishes and local cuisine, plus unusual live entertainment, such as live calypso, soca or goombay music.

There are also education sessions on topics such as cooking, arts and craft, digital photograph and social media. Questions and answer sessions with members of the shipboard team give guests an opportunity to learn about life on a Carnival ship.

One “Throwback Sea Day,” where Carnival transforms its pool deck to 1987 with some old school dining options and 1980s movies shown on deck, is included on each sailing.

The new sailings are 12 to 14 days long and leave from ports along the East and West Coasts and the Gulf of Mexico. They include a 14-day Alaska itinerary on Splendor departing Aug. 25, 2018; a 14-day Southern Caribbean sailing on Breeze departing Sept. 16, 2018; three 14-day Hawaii cruises on Splendor departing Oct. 13, 2018, Dec. 1, 2018 and Jan. 12, 2019; and a 14-day Panama Canal sailing on Freedom departing Oct. 27, 2018.

A full list of the new Journeys dates is available on the Carnival website.

Carnival initially announced the Journeys program in 2015, making it available on 28 total sailings over two years. According to Carnival president Christine Duffy, the sailings “have proven enormously popular with guests who enjoy both unforgettable landside experiences and one-of-a-kind onboard enrichment activities.”
