Cruise Guests Will Now Pay Higher Taxes in Ibiza and Mallorca

Clients heading to the Balearic Islands – Ibiza, Mallorca, and Menorca – by cruise might soon have to pay more, The Independent reported.

Under new “tourism containment measures” proposed by the Balearic Islands government last week, cruise ship passengers would pay 6 euros per night – three times the previous 2 euro per night tax.

Cruisers aren’t the only tourists facing higher taxes. Under the new plan, hotel stays would also incur a higher tax, specifically the Sustainable Tourism Tax, which would rise from 4 euros to a maximum of 6 euros per person, per night during high season. The tax would vary by season, with stays in January and February exempt from the charge.

The proposal must still be approved by parliament.
