The newest Disney Cruise Line ship, Disney Treasure, will honor Disney’s dedicated cast members, employees, and Imagineers worldwide. Disney announced on Wednesday that Walt Disney Company’s 200,000 cast members, crew, and Imagineers would serve as the official godparents of the Disney Treasure.
“At the core of everything we do at Disney are the dedicated Cast Members and employees who create the magic that brings joy to millions of people around the globe,” Bob Iger, CEO of The Walt Disney Company, said in the announcement.
“That’s why we are proud to honor all Disney employees as the godparents of the Disney Treasure. This is our way of paying tribute to the dreamers and doers who continue to tell our stories in the most compelling and innovative ways.”
Disney’s last debut, Disney Wish, also opted for a less traditional godparent, instead designating all past, present, and future Make-A-Wish kids as godparents.
The ship is scheduled to be christened in New York City next week and will debut as the sixth ship in the Disney fleet, joining Disney Magic, Wonder, Dream, Fantasy, and Wish. Along with a host of signature Disney Cruise Line details, Disney Treasure will feature a number of firsts for the company, including a Haunted Mansion-themed bar, plus venues inspired by Coco, Jungle Cruise, and Aladdin.
After its christening, Treasure will embark on its first voyage—a 7-night Eastern Caribbean cruise—departing from Port Canaveral, Florida, on Dec. 21, 2024. It will continue its inaugural season with 7-night cruises to both the Eastern and Western Caribbean.
