Holland America to Add Third Ship to Northern Europe in 2027

Holland America will expand its presence in Northern Europe in 2027 with the addition of a third ship dedicated to exploring the coastlines of Greenland, Scandinavia, the Baltics, and the British Isles. The expansion comes after surveys of both current and prospective guests show that nearly half of respondents rank Northern Europe (including Iceland and Greenland) as one of the most appealing cruise destinations.

Starting in 2027, Zuiderdam will join Nieuw Statendam and Rotterdam in the region. The latter two ships will continue to homeport in Rotterdam, while Zuiderdam will cruise out of Amsterdam. Both Zuiderdam and Rotterdam will also offer departures from Reykjavik, and Nieuw Statendam will offer some from Dover, England.

Oosterdam will continue is the line’s primary ship sailing the Mediterranean.

“Northern Europe is extremely popular with our guests — for the ports of call and stunning scenery,” said Paul Grigsby, vice president of deployment and itinerary planning for Holland America Line. “As a cruise line rooted in European heritage, we’re uniquely positioned to offer them one-of-a-kind explorations with an onboard experience that matches the region… this season provides guests more chances to experience everything Northern Europe has to offer.”

All European sailings feature a series of onboard “Up Close” presentations and port talks, as well as live, local entertainment in some ports of call. The season runs from April to December 2027 and itineraries range from seven to 21 days.

Bookings for 2027 sailings onboard Rotterdam and Nieuw Statendam are already open. Bookings for Zuiderdam’s 2027 Northern Europe voyages will go on sale later in June.
