Princess Cruises will operate its most expansive Japan season ever in 2027 when it adds a second ship to the region with the arrival of Sapphire Princess.

Sapphire Princess will join Diamond Princess – its sister ship (both were built at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries shipyard in Nagasaki) – in sailing from the Tokyo region throughout the entire season. In total the two ships will sail 78 departures of 50 itineraries ranging in length from seven to 28 days and visiting 45 destinations in six countries.

“This upcoming 2027 season is more than an expansion – it’s a homecoming,” said Gus Antorcha, president of Princess Cruises. “Our story in Japan has deepened over time and experience and in 2027, we return promising unforgettable experiences, including the renowned Cherry Blossoms, seven spectacular festivals, and journeys that immerse you in the awe and wonder of this destination.”

Among the many itineraries that will be on offer include Cherry Blossom voyages ranging in length from nine to 24 days, Circle and Grand Japan voyages ranging from nine to 28 days, Okinawa and Taiwan itineraries ranging from nine to 18 days, and Festival-themed cruises in August ranging from eight to 24 days.

The season also comprises 12 “More Ashore” late-night ports including Osaka, Hiroshima, Hakodate, Sakata, and Halong Bay.

Guests sailing on both Diamon Princess and Sapphire Princess will enjoy onboard Japanese touches including regional dishes, Japanese drinks, folkloric performances and storytelling, and more.

The March to December 2027 Japan season goes on sale Aug. 20, 2025. Guests who book by Aug. 27, 2025 can enjoy Captain’s Circle savings of up to $200 per room.
