Hilton Antwerp To Add Executive Rooms And Apartments

The Hilton Antwerp Old Town will be undergoing a renovation over the next three years, adding 40 executive-level hotel rooms, plus 30 apartments designed to attract an older generation of Belgians who are downsizing from houses in the suburbs to smaller quarters in the city.

The hotel rooms will be a new category of executive room, says general manager Serge De Wandelaer, slightly smaller “but more efficiently laid out” than the current ones.

Already reimagined is the Brasserie Flo Antwerp restaurant; it’s built “to suit the eating and drinking habits of the local population,” with a glass pergola that extends out into the plaza. Behind the scenes, a new chef has been brought in from Seabourn Cruise Line has spruced up the menu and brought a new creativity, De Wandelaer said, introducing items like salmon marinated in ginger and more tasting menus that offer many small bites rather than a single item.

An Italian-themed event, for example, might feature a giant round of cheese used as a serving dish for spaghetti, presented with three or four different sauces. “Guests expect more and more interactivity,” De Wandelaer said.

The hotel has a kosher kitchen, the largest pillarless ballroom in the city, and a roof that opens to show the sky, making it a prime setting for weddings and corporate events.
