Disneyland to Introduce Virtual Queuing System at Galaxy’s Edge

Disneyland to Introduce Virtual Queuing System at Galaxy’s Edge

Brothers Bobby and Thor, of San Rafael, California, were among the first guests to arrive at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California, on opening day, May 31, 2019. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is Disney’s largest single-themed land expansion ever at 14-acres, transporting guests to Black Spire Outpost, a village on the planet of Batuu. Guests will discover two signature attractions, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, available opening day, and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, opening later this year. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge also opens at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, Aug. 29, 2019. (Joshua Sudock/Disneyland Resort)

Disneyland’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will no longer require a reservation beginning June 24 to access the land. To ease large crowds, the theme park said Thursday it may utilize a virtual queuing system, on an as-needed basis.

Guests can check either the Disneyland app or signage in the park the day of their visit to find out if they will need to be part of a boarding group to visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge on that day. The boarding group will save a virtual spot in line, so park-goers can enjoy other experiences while they wait to be notified of a time to enter.

If a virtual queue is needed on that particular day, guests can request to be part of a boarding group after entering Disneyland park. They can link the theme park tickets of everyone in the party together on the app to request the same boarding group. To see which boarding group is currently being admitted to the land, they check the app or digital signage in the park.

A push notification will notify them when they can enter Galaxy’s Edge, or guests can manually check the app or digital signage in the park. They will have up to two hours to enter the land after their boarding group is called for admission.

For guests without the Disneyland app, a boarding group can be obtained with a park admission ticket at select Disney FastPass Service locations such as the Haunted Mansion, Indiana Jones Adventure, Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, or near the Matterhorn Bobsleds.

Reservations will still be required for Savi’s Workshop — the place where you craft custom lightsabers —and the popular Oga’s Cantina. Guests who want to book a reservation can do so on the same day of their visit, beginning at 7 a.m., with a credit card. Reservations for either activity will grant entrance into Galaxy’s Edge for the scheduled time, similar to a boarding group.
