International travelers will no longer have to take a COVID-19 test upon arrival in Fiji.

Tourism Fiji made the announcement this week that the requirement, which had forced travelers to pre-book tests and then test once they had landed, would be dropped effective immediately.

The destination also said it will still require “those who develop COVID-19 symptoms” to test and for travelers coming into Fiji to self-report symptoms on an immigration arrival card. However, the mandatory isolation period will move from seven days to five days., which Tourism Fiji said “is expected to greatly assist” the country’s tourism industry.

“This is another exciting step towards normalcy for tourism in Fiji,” said Brent Hill, CEO of Tourism Fiji. “We welcomed a record number of visitors in July, which showed an 82% recovery from pre-pandemic levels. Now, with the removal of the required in-country test, travelers can continue enjoying our islands with even more peace of mind.”

Other travel-related protocols still remain, including Fiji’s requirement to be fully vaccinated and to have purchased travel insurance ahead of time. Fiji said that its Risk Mitigation Taskforce would continue reviewing those requirements while balancing travel and safety.

Over 93% of Fiji’s adult population?is fully vaccinated and children aged 12-17 years are now also receiving vaccinations, according to Tourism Fiji.
