Holbox to Chetumal: Mexican Caribbean Event Educates & Inspires Agent Partners

Holbox to Chetumal: Mexican Caribbean Event Educates & Inspires Agent Partners

The Mexican Caribbean Tourism Board hosted its annual trade event in Vaughan, north of Toronto, showcasing the region’s diverse tourism offerings. Once promoted primarily as the State of Quintana Roo, the destination is now marketed through twelve distinct tourism zones stretching from Holbox in the north to Chetumal near the Belize border in the south.

Sixteen partners and suppliers were on hand to highlight the unique attractions, accommodations, and experiences available throughout the region. Attendees heard presentations from leading tour operators, including Transat and Sunwing/WestJet, whose representatives outlined their vacation packages and expanded air service from numerous Canadian gateways.

Representatives from regional hotel associations covering Cancun, Puerto Morelos, and Isla Mujeres were joined by hotel partners from Cancun, Playa Mujeres, Playa del Carmen, and Cozumel, providing agents with a comprehensive overview of the destination’s accommodation options.

The Mexican Caribbean reinforced its new branding as a “vacation capital,” offering year-round appeal through a diverse mix of family-friendly, adventure, luxury, and value-oriented vacations.

One of the evening’s most interesting takeaways came from conversations with fellow travel advisors. While destinations such as Cancun, Playa del Carmen, and Isla Mujeres are well known and frequently sold, many agents were less familiar with emerging and lesser-known areas such as Bacalar and its stunning lagoons, the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve, and Holbox, which some are already referring to as “the next Tulum.”

The evening concluded with a delicious dinner and the ever-popular prize giveaways. A standout surprise was a complimentary three-night stay at Hotel NYX Cancun, awarded to all participating agents.
