New Zealand Introduces New Travel Requirements

by Daine Taylor  November 11, 2019
New Zealand Introduces New Travel Requirements

AAT Kings is bringing small group departures to New Zealand.

The Government of New Zealand has recently introduced new travel requirements for visitors and travelers who may be just passing through. Travelers will now have to check whether their passports will require a visa or a New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority (NZeTA), to enter the country, or continue onto their next destination.

The NZeTA allows Immigration New Zealand to carry out passenger screening in advance of travel, meaning passengers won’t be allowed to board their aircraft without the required valid travel documents (either a visa or NZeTA). They may require an NZeTA, even when transiting New Zealand to their final destination.

The NZeTA is a legal requirement for travel to New Zealand, and those who require an NZeTA for travel to or transit through New Zealand will be unable to complete check-in without it.

Travelers should also be aware that the New Zealand Government may also require them to pay an International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy, which costs $35 per person, and is processed and payable when you apply for your visa or NZeTA.

Travelers can apply for an NZeTA online, or by downloading the NZeTA app, but should be aware that approval can take up to 72 hours. The NZeTA will last for two years, or until the passport expires.
