The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has approved a $5.3 billion investment to modernize LaGuardia and Newark Liberty Airports. The project was originally announced by Gov. Andrew Cuomo in July.
LaGuardia will be getting $2.3 billion of those funds to build a new 1.3-million-square-foot Terminal B, a new Central Hall, and infrastructure around the airport, including roads and a parking garage.
Newark’s funds will be put toward replacing Terminal A and adding a parking garage.
The website for the project calls it “one of the most ambitious [plans] every undertaken in the New York/New Jersey region.” It is scheduled to be completed in 2022.
