The U.S. Virgin Islands (USVI) has signed a new multi-year deal to become the official Caribbean Destination Partner for the NFL’s New York Jets.
The partnership, announced on Thursday, will see the USVI collaborate with the Jets to boost its presence on its fan-facing channels. The USVI also said that it expects to be able to add some “unique elements” of Caribean culture into the Jets’ gameday experiences for fans attending its games.
“There’s no better time than now to kick off this partnership between the U.S. Virgin Islands and the New York Jets,” said Commissioner Joseph Boschulte, USVI Department of Tourism.
“The New York Metropolitan area is one of our main feeder markets, and we could not pass on the opportunity to collaborate with this longstanding franchise to showcase the vibrancy and culture of our beloved islands.”
“We could not be more thrilled to be partnering with our friends from the U.S. Virgin Islands this season. We see a great opportunity to unite our audiences and engage them in not only football but the vibrant culture of America’s Caribbean islands,” said Jeff Fernandez, Vice President, Business Development + Ventures for the New York Jets.
Sports teams partnering with travel companies is nothing new—another New York franchise, the NBA’s Knicks, had partnered with MSC Cruises last year, just one of many collaborations between sports teams and travel companies. The Miami Heat, another one of the sport’s iconic franchises, has been owned by Micky Arison, the chairman of Carnival Corporation, since 1995.
