You Can Now Get an Iced Coffee Onboard Southwest Airlines
by Daniel McCarthy /It’s officially iced coffee season on Southwest Airlines.
Southwest announced this week that it will begin offering Community Coffee’s Espresso + Cream iced coffee onboard for $4. Southwest has been offering Community Coffee, which is the largest family-owned coffee brand in the United States, on board since 2016, but this is the first time it will offer iced coffee.
Southwest will start with Community Coffee’s pre-made Espresso + Cream in 8-ounce ready-to-drink bottles. Those offer 20 milligrams of caffeine and 150 calories.
The drink will be served over ice on 4,000 flights per day, spanning over 100 destinations in 42 states as well as Puerto Rico, Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean.
The addition of iced coffee is not the only change Southwest has made to its onboard experience lately.
Last week, the low-cost carrier unveiled that it was changing the way it charges for Wi-Fi. It will no longer charge $8 for an all-day WiFi pass. Instead, starting this week, it will charge $8 per flight leg, meaning that someone with a connection would have to pay again for the second leg of their flight.
Southwest says that the change is being made because of an ongoing, fleet-wide update to its Wi-Fi service provider—Southwest will welcome new, Viasat-equipped planes starting in March, which means that some will be flying two legs of a trip with Wi-Fi from two different providers.
The airline will still offer access to its onboard entertainment for free.
