Intrepid Cancels All Cuba Itineraries Through April
by Briana Bonfiglio
Intrepid has cancelled all upcoming Cuba itineraries through April 30 in a decision that “was not made lightly,” said Leigh Barnes, president of the Americas at Intrepid Travel.
Cuba is facing ongoing fuel shortages resulting in nationwide power outages, including an island-wide blackout on March 16 that left about 10 million people without electricity. It was the third major blackout in Cuba over the past four months, according to AP News.
Travelers currently touring with Intrepid in Cuba can safely complete their trips as planned, but all future itineraries up to and including April 30 are now canceled.
“We know this has a real impact on the local workers and families whose livelihoods are tied to tourism, and our thoughts are with them,” Barnes said. “We remain committed to supporting our partners and returning as soon as conditions become stable.”
