Uniworld Boutique River Cruises unveiled a sneak peek at its brand-new Mekong River newbuild, the Mekong Mystique, set to debut in 2028. Joining the Mekong Jewel, the new vessel will double Uniworld’s presence in Vietnam and Cambodia.
“We’re thrilled to share a first look at the Mekong Mystique and give guests a glimpse of what’s to come in 2028,” says Ellen Bettridge, president and CEO of Uniworld Boutique River Cruises. “The design is truly special, blending classic Indochine influences with European elegance in a way that feels both timeless and full of character. From the intricate toile wallpaper and hand-painted vanities to the floral-tiled pool framed by lush greenery, every space has its own personality, with beautiful details that make the ship feel like a destination in itself.”

Colonial Influence
Designed by Madame Diep Ngoc Le of Lotus Cruises, the ship reflects a creative perspective shaped by her early career as a curtain seamstress in Saigon, where she developed an appreciation for the city’s colonial architecture and craftsmanship. These influences helped shape her vision for the vessel, resulting in a residential-style atmosphere that brings together elements of the region’s cultural heritage, natural materials, and thoughtful design details.

The newly revealed renderings showcase residential-style interiors layered with botanical motifs, rich wood and antique-inspired furnishings. In the lobby, wood floors and a striking staircase set the tone for the ship’s elegant design. Suites feature arched floor-to-ceiling windows and ornate details, while bathrooms pair toile-style wallpaper and hand-painted botanical vanities with gilded mirrors and brass fixtures.

A standout feature is the ship’s two-story sundeck, a first for the brand, anchored by an expansive floral-tiled pool surrounded by greenery, scalloped awnings and decorative ironwork. Together, these elements evoke an open-air garden terrace, creating an inviting space to take in the scenery along the Mekong.
The new ship will sail the “Timeless Wonders of Vietnam, Cambodia & the Mekong” itinerary beginning in September of 2028.
