AmaWaterways Unveils Newest Mekong River Cruise Ship, AmaMaya

AmaWaterways unveiled a first look at its newest Mekong River cruise ship, the AmaMaya, set to debut in January 2027. The 120-passenger ship that been designed around a contemporary interpretation of Indochine heritage. AmaMaya will sail AmaWaterways’ Charms of the Mekong and Riches of the Mekong itineraries.

“The Mekong offers such a special way to discover Vietnam and Cambodia, bringing guests into close contact with the people and traditions of the region,” said Catherine Powell, CEO of AmaWaterways. “With AmaMaya, we wanted to build on that connection by inviting guests onto a ship that is inspired by its surroundings and the rivers it sails. Carrying 120 guests in 60 staterooms, the same number and type of accommodations as sistership AmaDara, AmaMaya also features two dining venues, including the Mekong Restaurant and The Chef’s Table, an intimate specialty restaurant featuring a multi-course tasting menu. Menus will highlight Southeast Asian flavors and fresh ingredients, with vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and other dietary needs accommodated.

AmaMaya will also feature a fitness room, sun deck pool, and three massage rooms. A dedicated Wellness Host will lead fitness and mindfulness activities throughout the cruise.

Mekong River Itineraries

AmaMaya will sail AmaWaterways’ 7-night Charms of the Mekong and Riches of the Mekong itineraries, with included experiences that range from walking through traditional villages and visiting local schools to exploring silk-making and rattan workshops and browsing vibrant local markets. 

Guests can discover Phnom Penh by tuk-tuk, visit the former royal capital of Oudong and take part in a traditional Buddhist blessing ceremony. In Vietnam, experiences include a traditional trishaw ride through Tan Chau and opportunities to explore local craftsmen’s workshops, while guests can also venture into the Mekong Delta’s lush Tra Su Forest and Sanctuary by sampan, surrounded by waterways, cajuput trees and abundant birdlife. 

Guests sailing Charms of the Mekong can extend their journey with a three-night Bangkok stay, while Riches of the Mekongoffers a choice of a three-night Bangkok or four-night Central Vietnam extension.
