Alex Pinelo, chief sales officer at AmaWaterways, will depart the company after nine years. His last day with the top-rated river cruise line will be July 31.
Catherine Powell, CEO of AmaWaterways, announced Pinelo’s departure in an email to travel partners, noting that Pinelo is relocating to Florida to be closer to his family. Pinelo first joined AmaWaterways in 2017 as director of Latin America. He steadily rose the ranks in sales leadership, most recently being promoted to chief sales officer in February 2025.
“On behalf of everyone at AmaWaterways, I want to thank Alex for his years of commitment, friendship and unwavering support of our travel advisor partners,” Powell said. “While we are sad to see him go, we understand and respect his decision. We wish Alex and his family every happiness and success as they begin this exciting new chapter.”
Gary Murphy, AmaWaterways co-owner and vice president of national accounts, will serve as the company’s interim chief sales officer during this transition period. Powell assured travel advisors that their “day-to-day experience with AmaWaterways will remain unchanged” and their business development managers (BDMs) and sales team are still the best point of contact.
