Delta Air Lines to Fly Direct to Tulum When New International Airport Opens
by Daniel McCarthy /Delta Air Lines will be one of the first carriers to fly international service into the new Tulum airport, Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport.
The airport is scheduled to open for international service in late March 2024 and Delta this week announced that it will operate daily, nonstop service from its Atlanta hub at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, to the new airport starting then. Delta, right now, is scheduled to officially kick off the service on March 28, 2024.
“Delta is uniquely positioned to give customers convenient and direct access from the U.S. to Tulum, a premium leisure destination known for its boutique hotels, Mayan ruins, and eco-friendly spirit,” said S.V.P. of Network Planning Joe Esposito.
“We know Tulum-bound customers will enjoy the elevated experience Delta consistently offers – and now without a two-hour drive from Cancun – as we grow our footprint in Mexico and throughout the Yucatan region,” he added.
Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport has been in the works since March 2011. According to the airport, its construction is currently 65% complete as of Sept. 26, 2023. The airport is currently scheduled to operate its first flights in December 2023, giving Tulum travelers a different option than flying into Cancun International Airport and then getting ground transportation to Tulum.
The first carrier to operate flights out of the airport is scheduled to be Viva Aerobus.
