11 Caribbean, Mexico Hotel Openings to Anticipate for 2024
by Joe Pike /As the year comes to an end, it’s time for travel specialists to mark their 2024 calendars for some much-anticipated hotel openings in the Caribbean and Mexico.
Here are the most notable openings from a family-friendly hotel in Mazatlan to Sandals Resorts International’s first resort in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
Caribbean
Sandals St. Vincent & The Grenadines, opening March 27, had originally been conceptualized as a family-friendly Beaches Resorts property about three years ago, but the project has since been repositioned under the adults-only Sandals Resorts brand.
The resort represents a massive refurbishment of the former Buccament Bay Spa and Resort. In 2016, Buccament Bay Spa and Resort closed down.
Sandals Resorts International has also begun accepting reservations for the resort, which will be located on a 50-acre property.
The 301-room Sandals Saint Vincent and the Grenadines will offer a variety of accommodation categories, with the best being the two-bedroom butler villas.
There will be more than 15 food and beverage offerings, including Buccan, Sandals’ first communal-style restaurant. The tapas-style dining option will specialize in seasonal dishes made for sharing. It will feature an open kitchen, which is perfect for some impressive action shots for Instagram.
Projected to open in August, Secrets St. Lucia Resort & Spa will be the second Unlimited Vacation Club property on the island.
Just minutes from the popular Rodney Bay Marina, Cap Estate Golf Course, and capital city of Castries, resort guests will enjoy an impressive view of mountains, volcanic beaches, reef-diving sites, fishing village and more.
Opening in April, the Royalton CHIC Antigua is located 20 minutes from VC Bird International Airport along Dickinson Bay Beach. Royalton Chic Antigua is a great pitch for couples, groups of friends and solo travelers. The property is currently accepting reservations.
The resort will have 235 guest rooms and suites, each with a balcony or terrace for ocean and sunset views and modern decor in keeping with sister Royalton Chic Resorts in Punta Cana and Cancun.
Food and beverage options include seven restaurants, five bars and an on-site rum shop, besides a steakhouse, and assorted opportunities to indulge in cocktail pairing and special mixology.
Guests looking for a more luxurious stay at Royalton Chic Antigua can upgrade their stay with the Diamond Club room category, offering everything from butler services to personalized check-in and check-out, private space by the pools and on the beach, and a range of in-room amenities.
British Colonial Hilton Nassau, opening in the winter of 2024, is a luxurious four-star hotel located near the center of Nassau, the Bahamas. Local places of interest include National Art Gallery of the Bahamas, Haynes Oval and Fort Charlotte. Other points of interest are Arawak Cay, Pompey Museum (Vendue House) and the Pirate Museum.
There are 288 rooms at British Colonial Hilton Nassau. Guests of the hotel can make use of the following room facilities: voice mail, clock radio, climate control, coffee/tea maker and in-room safe. Iron/ironing boards are provided in the rooms. Additional amenities in the rooms include a desk, blackout drapes/curtains and an ergonomic chair.
Rooms at British Colonial Hilton Nassau feature premium bedding. Guests may request a rollaway bed and a crib/cot (infant beds). Bathroom amenities include hair dryers and complimentary toiletries.
British Colonial Hilton Nassau features in-room facilities such as premium television channel(s), cable television service and a flat-screen TV.
Additional hotel facilities include a gift shop/newsstand and a private beach. Leisure amenities include an outdoor swimming pool.
The Princess Hotels & Resorts Jamaica is set on 180 acres and will consist of a combination of four separate resorts, 14 over-the-water villas and a casino.
The first phase will consist of 1,005 luxury ocean view suites and the second phase with another 1,025 suites.
Each of the four resorts at Princess Hotels & Resorts Jamaica is projected to serve a different clientele and will range from adult-only packages to what the hoteliers describe as family fun parks and beach clubs.
Princess Hotels & Resorts Jamaica will be in the “5 Stars Grand Luxury” category and will be constructed in two phases.
Princess Senses the Mangrove, an adults-only luxury 5-star resort is scheduled to open Feb. 1 with 415 luxury ocean view suites to include over-the-water villas. The family-friendly Princess Grand Jamaica is scheduled to open April 1 with 590 luxury ocean view suites.
Six Senses La Sagesse in Grenada was announced back in 2019 and looks like it may finally open in May of 2024, according to representatives of the resort. The hotel will mark the brand’s debut in the Caribbean.
Stretching across roughly 40 acres, Six Senses La Sagesse is designed in the style of a traditional fishing village, with a mix of rooms, suites, and residences that look out over a lagoon.
In line with the brand’s commitment to sustainability, Six Senses La Sagesse will be a self-sufficient and plastic-free operation, growing most of its own produce and sourcing local seafood.
It will have 56 pool suites and 15 villas.
Mexico
Opening in April, Estrella del Mar Golf Club is a private residential community extending more than 900 acres with more than three miles of coastline. It’s located about 30 minutes from the city’s Historical District.
The hotel, which has 358 suites, caters to luxury all-inclusive travel for those looking to enjoy a leisure vacation on the Pacific Coast. The hotel offers eight on-site restaurants that will serve cuisines from all around the world.
Wellness enthusiasts can also experience the Dreams Spa by Pevonia Spa, which features a hydrotherapy service with waterfalls, whirlpools, a panoramic sauna, and a Turkish bath.
In addition, the property is home to an 18-hole professional golf course, designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., and considered one of Mexico’s best and most beautiful golf courses.
Opening in the second quarter of 2024, Nus Wyndham Garden Suites is about 20 minutes from the Mazatlan’s Historical District. And right above the city’s main tourist zone, the Golden Zone, filled with shops and restaurants.
There are 146 rooms, including 134 suites, nine master suites and three handicap accessible suites.
The hotel’s modern architectural design is meant to exude sophistication, exclusivity, comfortability and functionality. The hotel will provide first-class amenities, such as a modern gym and swimming pool, as well as restaurants, bars and shopping stores on the ground floor.
Hyatt Hotels plans to expand its Inclusive Collection in Mexico with the 509-key Secrets Playa Blanca Costa Mujeres, slated to open in February.
Secrets Playa Blanca Costa Mujeres will be located along a secluded strip of the Costa Mujeres shoreline, just 12 miles north of Cancun, Mexico.
Located on a white-sand beach with access to the world’s second-largest barrier reef, it will offer a variety of water sports and activities including snorkeling, kitesurfing, whale shark swimming, scuba diving and sport fishing.
Secrets Playa Blanca Costa Mujeres will have 509 suites, each with handmade local art and furnished with organic, locally sourced materials. Preferred Club accommodations will offer an extra level of luxury, including swim-out suites, exclusive access to the Preferred Club Lounge, an oceanfront beach club and a jungle-inspired pool.
The adults-only all-inclusive resort will offer nine dining concepts, including six a la carte gourmet restaurants, a buffet, a cafe and a grill. The resort will offer culinary programming such as kitchen tours to meet chefs, cooking classes, tequila and wine tastings, and a French restaurant with one of the largest wine selections in the destination.
Other facilities include the Secrets Spa by Pevonia as well as 8,000 square feet of meeting and event space. For couples planning their wedding, the resort will offer ceremony and reception locations accommodating up to 400 guests, including a beachside canopy, an infinity pool terrace and more.
All guests will enjoy access to four swimming pools, including two oceanfront infinity pools facing the Caribbean Sea.
Built in 1940, the historic 90-room Hotel Perla recently underwent a $10 million renovation and is expected to join the Hilton portfolio as Perla La Paz, Tapestry Collection by Hilton in early 2024.
Located in the “golden zone” of La Paz’s boardwalk, it is central to the charming city’s restaurants and attractions alongside views of the Gulf of California and Ensenada de La Paz.
Along with Perla La Paz, Tapestry Collection by Hilton, Hilton also recently signed an agreement for the conversion of The Tropicana Inn into the new Tropicana Los Cabos, Tapestry Collection by Hilton in early 2024.
Located just 500 feet from Plaza Mijares in the heart of the coastal getaway of San Jose del Cabo,
The property is located in a quiet enclave near the city’s center and offers proximity to some of San Jose del Cabo’s top destinations for dining, vibrant art galleries and local shopping.
The hotel has 70 rooms, including two suites, featuring authentic Mexican artwork and accents and the overall design encapsulates the spirit of San Jose del Cabo’s historic center.
The focal point of the hotel is a floor-to-ceiling glass bar within its onsite restaurant where guests can dine in the open-air cafe, outside patio or second-level veranda.
