Marriott International Adds New Midscale, Extended-Stay Brand
by Daniel McCarthy /Marriott International is adding a 32nd brand to its growing portfolio.
The new brand has not yet been named but is being referred to as Project MidX Studios. Marriott says the brand will be an affordable, midscale extended-stay brand, targeting travelers in the U.S. and Canada who are seeking “reasonable priced…longer stay accommodations.”
The brand will specifically target those who are looking for stays of 20 nights or longer at a rate of around $80 per night. Project MidX properties will include suites with single or double queens, in-room kitchens, ample closet space, on-site laundry, a gym, and pet-friendly facilities.
Project MidX will join other extended-stay brands from Marriott including Residence Inn by Marriott, Element by Westin, TownePlace Suites by Marriott, Marriott Executive Apartments, and Apartments by Marriott Bonvoy.
“Marriott has long believed in having the right accommodations in compelling destinations at the right price point. Whether our guests are traveling for business, leisure, or a mix of both, our portfolio of 31 brands offers something for everyone. As consumers look for new, flexible accommodation solutions, we are thrilled to announce our plans to launch an affordable midscale extended stay offering to meet the needs of guests seeking long-term comforts at a moderate price point,” said Marriott International President and CEO Anthony Capuano.
Marriott is working with hotel management companies Concord Hospitality and Whitman Peterson on the brand’s first three properties and is in talks with others on more than 250 new developments under the brand, according to CFO and EVP of Development Leeny Oberg.
