Air Canada Pilots to Host Informational Pickets Nationwide
by Sarah Milner /Air Canada pilots, who voted to authorize a strike this week, will demonstrate at all Air Canada bases on Tuesday, August 27.
According to a release sent by the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA), which represents the pilots, there will be informational pickets in Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, and Winnipeg.
New contract negotiations started in June 2023, but were unsuccessful. The parties entered private mediation in January 2024, which ended in June. If no agreement is reached by the end of the cooling-off period in mid-September, the pilots will be in a position for job action.
“Our goal is to reach an agreement; however, our employer continues to force us closer to a strike position by not listening to our needs at the negotiating table regarding fair compensation, respectable retirement benefits, and quality-of-life improvements. After more than a year of negotiations, management must now realize that if they fail to reach an agreement, they will be responsible for us withdrawing our services,” said F/O Charlene Hudy, chair of ALPA’s Air Canada Master Executive Council.
