AAA Predicts Record Number of Holiday Travelers

December 15, 2015

A record 100 million U.S. residents will be traveling this holiday season, according to a travel forecast released today by AAA. That’s a 1.4% increase over last year, for the seventh consecutive year of increased Christmas travel, which is the period from Dec. 23 to Jan. 3. The predicted increase is based on rising incomes and low gas prices.

AAA said airline passengers will spend an average of $174 on tickets, 6% cheaper than last year’s prices.

Hotel prices, however, have increased; rates will average $174 per night for AAA three-diamond hotels, up 4% from last year.
