Air Canada will not resume its Toronto-Mumbai service in 2027, leaving New Delhi as the airline’s only destination in India, according to a report by aviation news website Simple Flying.
The airline previously operated daily flights between Toronto Pearson International Airport and Mumbai, with a stop at London Heathrow. The service last operated in March 2026 and had been flown using Boeing 787-8 and 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft.
According to Simple Flying, which cited schedule data from aviation analytics company Cirium, Air Canada has opted not to restore the route as it restructures its Indian operations and redeploys aircraft elsewhere in its network.
The Toronto-Mumbai service operated as a fifth-freedom route, allowing Air Canada to carry passengers between London and Mumbai as well as those travelling between Canada and India.
Air India will take over the Toronto-Mumbai connection, with a new service operating nonstop from Toronto to Mumbai and returning to Canada via Rome Fiumicino Airport.
The change will leave Air Canada’s Indian network focused on New Delhi, with year-round nonstop service from Toronto and seasonal flights from Montréal.
For Canadian travel advisors, the withdrawal means clients travelling to Mumbai will need to consider Air India or alternative connecting services.
The change also removes Air Canada’s London-Mumbai connection, which offered an additional option for travellers flying between Europe and India.
Air Canada’s decision comes as Air India continues expanding its international network, including additional service to North America.
The developments highlight shifting competition in the Canada-India market, where demand for travel remains significant among visiting friends and relatives, business travellers and leisure passengers.
