Feds Making $7.5 Million Safety Investment in Windsor International Airport

Feds Making $7.5 Million Safety Investment in Windsor International Airport

Windsor, Ontario airport.

Through the Airports Capital Assistance Program, the federal government is providing nearly $7.5 million to Windsor International Airport to rehabilitate the asphalt and edge light modernization on Runway 07-25, and to purchase a second Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting vehicle.

The government says these improvements at YQG will help keep passengers, airport workers, and flight crews safe by ensuring critical aviation infrastructure remains in good condition and that emergency response services are equipped to support growing passenger volumes.

These improvements are particularly important for Windsor International Airport, which is located along a vital trade corridor at the Canada-United States border. Situated within an 800-kilometre radius of more than 100 million people and a major industrial market, the airport contributes to regional connectivity, trade, tourism, and economic growth.

Investments in Canada’s airports help provide safe, reliable, and efficient air transportation. By strengthening critical airport infrastructure, these investments help keep communities connected and contribute to strong regional economies.

“The nearly $7.5 million to Windsor International Airport through the Airports Capital Assistant Program allows for YQG to enhance safety and ensure that Windsor International Airport can continue to connect communities and be an economic and social driver for the region,” said Mark Galvin, President & CEO, Windsor International Airport (YQG).

Transport Canada’s Airports Capital Assistance Program provides federal funding to help eligible airports finance capital projects and equipment that will help them maintain safety.

Since its launch in 1995, the Airports Capital Assistance Program has committed over $1.3 billion for 1,288 projects at 201 local and regional airports across the country.
