It’s a Bird, It’s a Plane, It’s … an Uber?

Uber has unveiled Uber Air powered by Joby, offering riders an early glimpse at how they will soon be able to book an all-electric air taxi from Joby Aviation directly through the Uber app.
Joby plans to carry its first commercial passengers later this year in Dubai — a significant milestone in the expanding Uber–Joby partnership aimed at delivering seamless, multi-modal transportation in major cities worldwide.
“We’ve long believed in the power of advanced air mobility to transform how people move through cities,” said Sachin Kansal, Chief Product Officer at Uber. “With Uber Air, riders will be able to book Joby’s electric air taxi through a simple and familiar, one-tap experience on Uber, seamlessly connecting every leg of their journey – making ground-to-sky travel even more effortless.”

Passengers will simply open the Uber app, enter their destination in the “Where to?” field, and — if eligible, select Uber Air powered by Joby as a travel option. With a single tap, the platform will coordinate the entire journey, including Uber Black ground transfers to and from the vertiport. Joby’s all-electric aircraft is designed to carry up to four passengers in a quiet, spacious cabin featuring large panoramic windows. Operated by a certified commercial pilot, the service aims to provide a smooth, elevated way to travel above city traffic while experiencing next-generation aviation technology.
There are currently no official plans announced for Joby or Uber to launch the service in Canada. Joby’s immediate expansion targets include markets like New York, Los Angeles, the United Kingdom, and Japan, with broader global deployments potentially to follow over time.
Because advanced air mobility services require extensive local aviation certification and infrastructure (such as vertiports and regulatory approval), a Canadian launch would depend on future partnerships with Canadian aviation authorities.
