Boston Logan Airport’s Rideshare Fees Set to Increase in July

Under a new deal between the Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) and Uber and Lyft, travelers using rideshares to Boston’s Logan International Airport (BOS) will soon face higher fees.

Massport announced Wednesday that the agreement will increase the current $3.25 airport surcharge for drop-offs and pick-ups at Logan to $5.50 each way, a significant jump for those choosing Uber or Lyft for airport transportation.

The good news for travelers is that the new fee, which totals $11 round-trip, is lower than the $7.50 one-way surcharge Massport had previously proposed, which would have been the highest of any airport served by Uber.

The new fee will take effect in July.

As part of the deal, travelers using rideshares will now be able to be dropped off curbside at the airport’s terminals, rather than at a central location away from the terminals, which is the current protocol.

There are a few other changes coming to rideshare options at the airport. Both Uber and Lyft say they will work to add a “shared” option, which is typically more affordable for travelers. The fee for shared rides will be $1.50.

Massport will also allow more time for drivers to drop off and pick up passengers at the airport, giving them additional time to secure a new fare.

All the changes are expected to be finalized by the Massport board on Thursday.
