by Bruce Parkinson
Lonely Planet says Finland “feels touched by a kind of magic.”
On May 4 it will get easier for Canadians to visit ‘The World’s Happiest Country.’
After an absence since 2015, Finland’s national carrier Finnair, will reinstate Canada’s only direct connection to Helsinki from Toronto’s YYZ.
This new transatlantic flight arrives just as Canadian travellers look to new summer experiences and destinations. Finland has unique ones to offer, including the Midnight Sun, loads of outdoor activities and the cultural and urban pleasures of capital Helsinki.

Here’s what you need to know:
- Begins May 4, 2026, linking Toronto and Helsinki.
- 3x-weekly operation: Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday.
- First time Finnair has flown to Canada since 2015.
- A330 aircraft, with Business Class, Premium Economy, and Economy.
- Seasonal service operating until the end of August.
For your clients seeking new experiences, Northern Finland’s Lapland is a social media darling, with attractions including the Northern Lights, reindeer, saunas and the beauty of the arctic.
The new Finnair link is also a great opportunity for Canadians to experience a culture that has earned the title of ‘The World’s Happiest Country’ for nine years in a row.
